# Meeting with Evelyn Hardy and Karen Down of the ORS 23 June 2021 Key Points: - Trial will be in a single ORS Region (which?) - Timing: Aim for October (maybe half term) - Involve STEM UK Ambassadors - Engage ORS members as mentors - Trial for Mentor Toolkit - KT to present to regional committee - KT to present at OR63 Making an Impact Stream - KT to write article for Inside OR. Submit by 1st July for August edition (so pre conference) - Suggested age range 13/14 years old and/or 17 yr olds (to feed into personal statements for uni) - How many schools in each region? - Karen will research concentration of members - Evelyn suggested multi-academy trusts are a potential leverage point - Prizes? ORS already gives free membership. They can give pens etc. Something useful? What do students in these age ranges value?

- Identify multi academy trusts in Yorkshire for the schools trial - Identify student members of local universities to be mentors - Evelyn to provide details of student members by university (where they have provided that info) - Charlotte Land (STEM) didn' show. Who could replace her - Find out Yorks STEM rep - K to write a brief for potential mentors (what's involved; what they'll get from it etc) - There is a Data Science competition being run by unis in North East. Evelyn will provide contact details - Some orgns eg civil service have volunteering schemes - ORS would be happy to consider funding some expenses eg room hire etc if needed. Would need to prep a budget. - Branding...would need to announce that Systems Thinking is a type of OR and give ORS handouts...i think that's ok - Could we run a trial for uni students? Student members of ORS could convene teams at their unis. Think more attractive to 2nd years. - K o attend and answer ?s at next ORiE meeting on 4 August @ 11am. - If virtual Evelyn recommends Gather but we could also use the ORS pro zoom account.
